ManiMonday: How to select the right hue for you

There are so many options today when it comes to nail color. How do you choose nail polish colors that are right for you? With the amount of colors to choose from, you’ll probably end up with a wide selection of shades that can be used depending on the occasion. Here are some key points to consider when choosing a nail polish color:

  1. Choose based on skin color. Always remember, what looks good on one person, may not look good on others. If your skin is fair, lighter shades of nail polish with pink undertones is the way to go. Nail polishes that have blue undertones may also work well with fair skin. If your skin has more olive undertones and is a bit darker, reddish-brown and gold tones are your go-to shades. These shades look really great against olive skin. If your skin is on the darker side, working with vibrant reds and purples are sure to get positive reviews.
  2. Choose based on your lipstick. Another factor in selecting a nail hue is based on the same hues that look good on your lips. 9 times out of 10, what looks good on your lips will also look good on your nails.
  3. Select based on the event or occasion. Your choice of nail color for a day at school or night on the town is going to be different than a color you would select for a job interview. Speaking of which, when going in for an interview it’s best to stay in the muted or neutral family; the french manicure is always a safe go to as well. But if you’re headed out for a night out, take that opportunity to experiment with colors you’ve never tried. Any metallic shade is great to try!
  4. Choose based on season and trends. During warmer months, you’ll want to go lighter with the color. During cooler months, darker shades are often prevalent. Also pay attention to the color trends.

Use these tips to help you master selecting the correct polish hue for you!
